Common Questions
Is a Kundli the same as a Western birth chart?
Similar idea, different system. Both map where the planets were at your birth, but a Western natal chart uses the tropical zodiac while a Kundli uses the sidereal zodiac — so signs and house placements usually come out differently. See our tropical vs sidereal tool to understand the gap.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes, for the Ascendant (Lagna) and house placements to be accurate — it changes roughly every two hours. Your birth date alone is enough for a Sun sign, but not for a full, accurate Kundli.
Which ayanamsha (zodiac system) does this use?
The Lahiri ayanamsha — the official standard set by the Indian government's Calendar Reform Committee, and the most widely used in Vedic astrology software and printed Panchangs.
